Normal Blood Pressure

Health Lav89 - Normal Blood Pressure. It is said that blood pressure is normal, if the first number or systolic pressure is between 90 and less than 120 with a lower number or diastolic pressure between 60 and less than 80. The American Heart Association (AHA) states that blood pressure is normal when both systolic and diastolic are within that range.

Normal blood pressure is blood pressure below 120/80 mmHg and above 90/60 mmHg in adults.

For those whose blood pressure is within the normal range, it does not require medical intervention. However, it must maintain a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight to help prevent the development of high blood pressure (hypertension).

Regular exercise and consumption of healthy foods is mandatory. Especially when there is a family history that has hypertension.

How to read the correct blood pressure results?

When a doctor or medical officer checks for blood pressure, the outcome is two numbers, the upper (systolic) and lower (diastolic) numbers, separated by a slash. For example, 120/80 mmHg (reads 120 per 80 millimeters of mercury).

The upper number shows the amount of pressure in the arteries as long as the heart muscle contracts (strong pumping the contents), is called the systolic pressure. While the lower number shows the blood pressure when the heart muscle relaxes (expands to fill the volume), called diastolic pressure.

Both blood pressure numbers are important in determining the state of heart health. Figures larger than the ideal range indicate that the heart works too hard to pump blood to other parts of the body.
