How to Destroy Non-Surgical Kidney Stones with ESWL Shock Wave Method
Health Lav89 - How to Destroy Non-Surgical Kidney Stones with ESWL Shock Wave Method. ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) is one of the medical procedures used to destroy kidney stones. In addition ESWL can also be used to destroy types of stones in other organs, such as the gallbladder or liver.
Kidney stones are hard masses like stones formed from crystallization of solid minerals that occur in the kidneys. Usually small stones can still be treated by giving certain types of drugs, which can remove stones from the kidneys naturally when urinating.
But in larger kidney stones, they cannot be released through the urine causing kidney damage. When kidney stones begin to cause serious problems such as the onset of symptoms of severe pain, or the presence of bleeding in the urine, further treatment methods must be taken to prevent chronic kidney failure.
Method of Treatment for ESWL Kidney Stones
ESWL uses ultrasonic shock waves or sound waves to break kidney stones. This sound wave is also called a high-strength, shock wave, which will be fired from outside the body using a special machine.
ESWL was introduced in the early 1980s. Until now this therapy using shock waves has become the preferred treatment method for most kidney stone patients. ESWL is a noninvasive procedure, because it does not require surgery. Moreover, the benefits of treatment with ESWL are generally safer and easier to recover than surgical procedures.
After the ESWL treatment method is carried out, broken stone fragments will usually come out of the kidney through the urinary tract and then into the bladder and out during urination. The time needed to treat kidney stones through the ESWL method is relatively shorter. It only takes about 45 minutes or one hour.
Initial Preparation for Treatment with the ESWL Method
In the preparation stage before ESWL therapy is done, it is very important to tell your doctor about the medications, supplements, or herbs that you have taken. Because certain types of drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or blood thinners such as warfarin can interfere with blood clotting ability.
You may be asked to stop taking medication other than the medication prescribed by the doctor handling the shock wave treatment process. You may be advised not to drink or eat anything for at least six hours before the ESWL treatment procedure begins.
Anesthesia for Kidney Stone Treatment with ESWL
When ESWL is performed, patients are usually given general anesthesia. Actually the patient will usually not experience pain. Sometimes patients will be allowed to stay awake during the procedure and even allowed to watch procedures on ultrasound or X-ray monitors.
ESWL can be carried out on an outpatient basis. This means that you must report to the hospital or clinic before the ESWL procedure is carried out, and can leave the hospital on the same day after treatment.
Process of Treatment of Kidney Stones with ESWL Method
After you are given medication for anesthesia, you will be given antibiotics to prevent infection. Patients will be given hospital clothes and asked to lie on the surgical table on pads filled with water during the ESWL procedure. After that, patients will be placed in a two-hour recovery room for observation before being allowed to go home, but some patients must be hospitalized for one or two days if there are other health problems.
After going home, you have to rest a few days after the therapy is complete. drink plenty of water for several weeks to help the kidneys and facilitate removing kidney stones.
Shock wave ability to destroy kidney stones.
The ability and level of treatment methods of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy are influenced by the size and proportion of kidney stone formers. ESWL has been shown to completely destroy kidney stones in most patients. But in some other patients still need further medical treatment.
